The session for careers professionals based in the West Midlands was  delivered by Anthony Skates who is based in the Wye Valley and works across the Midlands.

About Anthony:

Anthony's focus is on building relationships between skills stakeholders, industry and education, and providing strategic guidance on skills and recruitment practices for the creative and cultural sector.  He is currently working with both the Royal Shakespeare Company and The National Archives to support the delivering of nationally significant Apprenticeship programmes.

He has spent 20 years in the field of skills development and vocational guidance with his most recent role as a Partnership Manager at Creative and Cultural Skills. Prior to this he was a Go Wales adviser at the University of South Wales where he developed specialist work placement opportunities for Creative Industry students. Other roles he has undertaken include managing the South East Wales Library Partnership and the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Media Academy. He has served as South West Regional Manager for Skillset Creative and Head of Business and Skills at South West Screen. Anthony qualified as a Careers Adviser at the University of Glamorgan from 2016 to 2020 worked at the Faculty of Creative Industries in University of South Wales to develop specialist work placements for students who required additional support.

Anthony is a Careers Professional freelancer focussing on the Creative Industries. He also works as a painter and has regularly exhibited and sold his work for the last 10 years. He is currently a member of the National Acrylic Painters’ Association.
