Safeguarding and external links policy

On behalf of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and the Creative Careers Programme ScreenSkills acknowledges the duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and is committed to ensuring safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities, government guidance and complies with best practice in line with the ‘5 Rights Foundation’.

The Discover Creative Careers Portal links to external websites for job profile content and careers information, comprising predominantly of trade bodies or sector skills organisations who have worked in partnership with ScreenSkills to create this resource. The Discover Creative Careers portal does not request young people to input any personal data.

Our approach to external linking

We ensure links to the content are editorially relevant and are suitable for the likely audience. These links are included for a number of reasons, including:

  • for information on job profiles
  • for further relevant information or other key source material
  • for useful practical information
  • for further informed content

We do not link to external sites in return for cash, services or any other consideration in kind. We link to sites purely on editorial merit. These will always be free to access, and users will not be asked to register or subscribe on the Portal before viewing content.

The Discover Creative Careers portal will also host a directory listing of partner websites and additional websites which may be of interest to the Portal’s users. Organisations wishing to express an interest in joining the directory will need to complete and submit the online form. The Creative Careers Portal team selects links and evaluates websites on the basis of editorial relevance, free of charge access to use, no requirement for users to submit personal details, no duplication of what is already on the site and that the organisation is not a commercial entity.

Responsibility for content on external websites

External links are selected and reviewed when the page is published. However, ScreenSkills is not responsible for the content of external websites. This is because:

  • ScreenSkills does not produce them or maintain/update them
  • ScreenSkills cannot change them
  • content can be changed without the ScreenSkills’ knowledge or agreement.

Some of our external links may be to websites which also offer commercial services, such as online purchases. The inclusion of a link to an external website from the Creative Careers Portal should not be understood to be an endorsement of that website or the site's owners (or their products/services).

Video and Audio Content

Regarding featuring video and audio content ScreenSkills online guidelines state:

  • Any material on the Creative Careers Portal must be suitable for a general audience including children.
  • The first click from the Creative Careers Portal should not lead straight to a page which includes material which is unsuitable for a general audience.

Where appropriate, users are informed of the nature of the material they might expect to see or hear by clear labelling on destination pages and on the video or radio players.
