Overview
About the opportunity
Sessions Available: 2 sessions (30 young people maximum). About the ‘Unfolding Welsh Textiles, Past & Present’ Exhibition: Young People will be able to explore the individual approaches to the challenge of creating new work inspired by an historic textile item – whether this was from a private collection, heirloom or seen and studied at a museum’s collection within Wales. Pupils will be grouped and carousel around three activities. Activity 1: Young People would design and make a printing block using cut foam shapes on a wooden block. They would then get the opportunity to experiment with printing on fabric, exploring some of the basic principles of pattern repeat before printing their final design on a tote bag to take home at the end of the session. Activity 2: Young people will work with a textile artist who specialises in heritage crafts, natural materials and plant dyes. The hands-on sessions will inspire creativity, teach practical textile skills, and explore sustainable approaches to contemporary art making. Activity 3: To be supervised by a member of school staff. Young People will explore the Unfolding Textiles exhibition and have time to sketch and photograph the amazing display of craft created by the Makers Guild of Wales.
