About the opportunity
DesignHer is a unique peer-powered network to support people from underrepresented backgrounds to access opportunities within the creative industries. The network was founded by Buttercrumble, a female-led design studio, who are reimagining traditional business networks by placing belonging and lived experience at its core. Why now? Well, despite the UK’s thriving creative economy, there are huge barriers to enter the creative industries for the working-class, and Black, Asian, and Hispanic people, and women. A 2024 study by the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre found that 90% of the workforce is white and just 34% of managers and directors are women. Too often, support is formal, intimidating or inaccessible. DesignHer is different. It’s an inclusive peer-support group in warm, accessible, family-friendly spaces where food and drink will be provided. The network welcomes West Yorkshire women (inclusive of trans and non-binary people) who face barriers due to class, race, disability, gender identity or caring responsibilities, to join a series of get-togethers. The sessions combine guest mentoring and peer-to-peer exchange. Plus – between events – members can access an online hub of resources to stay connected and inspired. DesignHer members can sign up for free via the DesignHer website to join the email newsletter, receive updates and secure tickets for upcoming events. Furthermore, the programme is actively seeking partners and volunteers who share its mission to create an inclusive, sustainable creative economy.Contact the company about this opportunity
