Overview
About the opportunity
The Gwynedd Archives Service has two Archives, in Caernarfon and Dolgellau which together protect 800 years of the county's history. Caernarfon Archives provides access to and collects material relating to the old county of Caernarfon. The collections include manuscripts, volumes, correspondence, diaries, photographs, maps and newspapers on a wide variety of subjects. These materials can be viewed in the research room. We also have an Education Service where our Education Officer provides material and visits schools. We also have a Conservation Service where the Officer repairs documents and binds books. In the workshop it is intended to have an introduction to the Archives and the collections, and to the different jobs that exist in the Archives. Then there will be an opportunity to go around the building to see how the collections are kept. The students will then set out to get a taste of the different types of work that is carried out by the Archives by cataloguing, creating a small exhibition, responding to inquiries and repairing documents with the staff. The schools will not need to provide any equipment for the workshop.
