About the opportunity
Lauren Orme Bio: Lauren Orme is an animator, director and producer based in Cardiff. She is the founding Director of Cardiff Animation Festival, a biennial festival and year-round programme celebrating all things animated with audiences of all ages across Wales. Lauren is also co-founder and Director of Picl Animation, a Cardiff-based micro animation studio making animation for film, TV, theatre, charities and the public sector. Her animated films have been screened at over 100 festivals around the world, and her short film Creepy Pasta Salad was shortlisted for a BAFTA and nominated for the BAFTA Cymru award for Best Short Film in 2020. Ellys Donovan Bio: Ellys is the Festival Producer at Cardiff Animation Festival and has been part of the CAF team since 2018. Ellys regularly programmes in-person and online screenings for Cardiff Animation Nights as well as organising the annual CAF On Tour screening event taking animated shorts and feature films to independent venues across Wales. Ellys has a wide range of experience collaborating internationally with animation festivals and events including New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival, ExtrAnimation Festival, Cape Town International Animation Festival, the British Animation Awards and online variety show Puppetry at The Pop-Up Palladium. Workshop Outline: Founded in 2014, Cardiff Animation Festival (CAF) is about bringing people together around a love of animation. From industry professionals and emerging artists to audiences and workshop participants. CAF creates a space for people of all ages and backgrounds to meet, learn and share the enjoyment of watching and participating in animation and filmmaking and is Wales' largest international animation festival. Festival Director Lauren Orme and Producer Ellys Donovan will talk about how they entered the animation industry through different paths and how they plan and programme Cardiff Animation Festival. The workshop will give students a chance to participate in a collaborative animation (a regular CAF activity). They will learn the principles of animation, see the different techniques used in traditional and modern animation and create their own unique frame of animation. When finished each frame from the students will come together to create an animated loop. Equipment: Projector, HDMI cable.
