Blender: What does it do – Animation and VFX
Available in February 2026 3 hour sessions per group
Workshop Equipment and Setup Software: Blender is FREE. School would need IT support staff to install.
Group size: Up to 20 students studying GCSE/ A Level Workshop
Learning Objectives Participants will:
• Understand the basics of 3D modelling using Blender
• Develop problem-solving, organisation, and creative thinking skills
• Explore STEAM connections through visual and practical applications
• Gain awareness of digital literacy and open-source tools
• Reflect on creativity and careers in a post-AI society Core Technical Content A.
Introduction to Blender
• What Blender is and where it is used (games, films, design, engineering)
• Interface overview and navigation
• Importance of open-source software in digital society B.
Basic 3D Modelling Project • Guided project (e.g. simple car model)
• Understanding: o Primitives and mesh editing o Scale, proportion, and symmetry o Modifiers and basic materials C. Introduction to Animation & Rendering
• Simple animation concepts (movement, keyframes)
• Camera setup and lighting basics
• Rendering a final image or short animation
