Five big reasons creative employers should get involved with Discover Creative Careers

Creative UK’s Discover Creative Careers campaign connects underrepresented young people with opportunities across the creative industries, helping build a diverse, skilled workforce for the future.

By Emily Cloke, CEO of Creative UK

At Creative UK, we believe creative careers are for everyone. Whether that be in film, TV, advertising, gaming, performing arts, heritage, createch, publishing, design, fashion, visual art or more besides - jobs in the cultural and creative industries are amazing: fuelled by imagination, innovation and inspiration.

Creative UK is the national membership body for the creative industries. We’re proud that our members work in such a wide variety of industries. They’re the people making games, theatre, films and TV. They’re publishing books and keeping heritage sites alive. And they’re creating important jobs that bring meaning and excitement.

Discover Creative Careers is a vital campaign. It’s about ensuring as many young people as possible know those jobs are an option - and exactly how to get there.

For the next three years, Creative UK - as part of the Creative Careers Collective - will be working with employers - and by that, we mean creative organisations, businesses, and practitioners  -  to support pathways to the industry from underrepresented young people. Here’s why we think it’s an amazing opportunity for creative leaders to get involved with:

  • Supporting a diverse range of voices now is the best way to build the most exciting talent of tomorrow. The pipeline is full of possibility.
  • Creative opportunities support skills development - from critical thinking to problem solving. We’re nurturing a generation with key skills for the future.
  • The creative industries is an ecosystem. Supporting entry into one sector (for example theatre) can lead onto a wide range of opportunities (eg, film). It’s not just a job - it’s a future.
  • One in ten businesses are creative - it’s vital that the next generation are up skilled to continue (and grow) that contribution to the UK.
  • The creative industries support 2.4 million jobs in the UK. We want to see that figure continue to grow - supporting diverse talent now is the best way to that.

We’re thrilled to be working with our partners Futures For All and Creative Access on this important campaign, and we can’t wait to bring creative employers with us.

If you’d like to get involved in the campaign, please do complete our contact form and a member of the team will get back to you.
