20 creative companies hosted work experience in summer 2019

S4SNextGen (the work experience programme from Speakers for Schools) works with employers to help them reach young people who would not otherwise be able to access work experience opportunities. They work with everyone, from small organisations with no experience of hosting work placements to huge organisations who might want to expand, develop or change their existing programmes. S4SNextGen will share tools to help you plan, programme and manage the process in the best way that works for your organisation.

Through S4SNextGen, the summer term saw 20 creative companies open their doors to young people, and between them they hosted 104 students on work experience.

Student Amelia spent a week at the English National Opera and said, “I didn’t realise how many roles there are behind the scenes before my placement. It has helped to form my idea of what I will do as a career in theatre as I was shown so many different departments that I didn’t even know existed.”

Ryan took part in work experience with events company WonderWorks and developed a different perspective on the creative industries. “I never thought of a career in the creative industries. I always thought I’d do it as a hobby. But now looking in what we do and the project we’re working on I’m very intrigued and inspired to get into the sector.”

Other companies who hosted work experience included M&C Saatchi, V&A Museum, Spotify, Endemol Shine, Battersea Arts Centre, MTV, Beano Studios, National Portrait Gallery, D&AD, Scholastic and Kindred.
