Games, sometimes known as 'Esports', is the UK's fastest growing entertainment industry. The sector offers well-paid, exciting and challenging careers across the country with clusters of developers in various areas including Manchester, Cambridge, Bristol, Sheffield, Liverpool, Leamington Spa and many more.
Yet the job roles and skills involved are often a mystery to the young players behind the console - there are career pathways in art, programming, design, music composition, project management, marketing, finance, legal and many more!
Delivered in collaboration with Ubisoft, creator of some of the world's most popular games including Assassin's Creed, Just Dance, Tom Clancy's video game series, Rayman, Far Cry, Watch Dogs and many more, this online industry insight will introduce professionals working in various roles across the sector and share a glimpse into the types of skills and experiences required to work in games. Ubisoft team members will be joined by a couple of professionals from Third Kind Games (Sea of Thieves, Hearthstone, Predecessor).
The event was part of Games Careers Week which brings a range of organisations together to allow young people to explore the various pathways into games and creative industries.
The live event took place in June 2024.
The panellists included
- James Gorry, Head of Communications, Ubisoft Leamington
- Fern Griffiths, Junior Level Designer, Ubisoft Leamington
- Lucía Vázquez Vaquero, Junior Economy Designer, Ubisoft Leamington
- Felipe Anargyrou, Programmer, Third Kind Games
