Discover! Creative Careers with Adobe Foundation: Games Workshop with Radical Forge at Longfield Academy in Darlington – November 2024

Students from Longfield Academy in Darlington got exclusive insight into the games sector as part of Discover! Creative Careers Week last November. Middlesbrough-based Radical Forge offered an opportunity for students to learn new skills, gain exposure to the industry and network with employers and people currently working within the sector. The team at Radical Forge led a workshop focused on developing students’ creative skills. A variety of activities includedpaper prototyping, character design and tips on producing a video game level, ,highlighting  the creative process  involved in  game design.

They were also joined by a representative from GameMaker who offered advice and firsthand insights into the realities ofworking in gaming. Radical Forge’s Head of Publishing, Stephen Hey,who has worked on games from Worms to Resident Evil, motivated students to explore future careers in the creative industries.  He said “So many people do not realise the breadth of careers available in games, it’s not just about art or coding, there are so many creative options. The enthusiasm and creativity we saw from the students at Longfield Academy has been inspiring, and I hope we opened their eyes to career options they might have never considered”.

The workshop involved 15 students and the event also included an assembly for all of Year 9
